Today was a wonderful Monday. Lots of work was accomplished and I even got started on my on-line class. Looking forward to getting this one out of the way so I can start another one. Had a wonderful evening with a little tv, lots of violin practice and of course my internet time. That always takes up a little too much of the evening. Need to change that! I did get my flowers watered too.
Well, Chelsea Lately is on and it's a must see! Already cracking me up....

An Odd Kind of Fun
That's my baby! We had our county fair this last week and for the first time ever I went to a Combine Demolition Derby. It was definitely more fun that I would have thought....considering they move real slow. LOL Here's some pics of the contenders. There were two groups; small and large.
We had great weather. It was a little warm in the beginning. Then the storm clouds started moving in around us but I don't think we ever actually got rain here in town. I was up at 4 am and we had a great lightening storm going on.
Tonight I went to supper with some gals (including my bestie Renee) and then out to the fair. Hubby joined me later and we listened to some music then headed home! Chillin' at home and watching TV. That's our weekend! Well, we have tomorrow. Ah Sunday!

Skink!
If you know anything about me you know I like Science. Heck, I taught it to 8th graders for four years. I absolutely LOVED sharing Science and it was so rewarding to be able to change views and open eyes to how fun Science could be. Yes, some things are as boring as a box of rocks....literally. I am talking about the rock cycle...you know, igneous rock and sedimentary rock and metamorphic. Blah, blah, blah. It does get fun. You just gotta be around someone who loves it and they'll show you.
So, to my original reason for this blog. In case you didn't read the title carefully, it does not say sTink, it says sKink. A skink is a type of lizard. More than likely you have ALL seen these and called them Salamanders or something else. They are a large group of lizards and very abundant.
I have heard stories of lizards in our basement at work. Well, I heard a scream on Monday morning and my co-worker ran from her desk. I quickly ran over there to keep anyone from killing the poor thing. Apparently my main boss (I have 7!) believes in the "Stomp and Toss" method. Oh no, not this chickee. As long as I am there we will have a "Catch and Release" program. I caught the little guy and he/she was a juvenile. Just under 3 or so inches. I released the skink in the mall field. I have decided if I have to I will hold on to them until I leave and take them farther away.
When I came home for lunch I grabbed my Audubon Society Reptile and Amphibian Identification Book and identified it as a Great Plains Skink. It was a little difficult because I could not just look at pictures as the juveniles can differ much from the adults, as in this case. After some reading and studying up I found that this little guy who is black with white spots around the mouth and a blue tail is the infant of a larger female skink that is mostly tan. Completely different so it is amazing. The tail wasn't real bright blue so he/she was VERY young, but in one of the pictures below you can see that it is in fact blue.
This is what an adult might look like. This picture is actually of a Great Plains Skink in Russell County.
I keep my eyes (and ears LOL) open all day long! I hope to rescue the infants, even the mom if she comes out. According to the Audubon book there could possibly be 7-20 eggs! Holy Crappoly.
Lizard Loving Tara will save them. When there has been nothing to give reason that these creatures will harm you why do we have the right to exterminate them?

Wowza!
Boy it has been a long time! In a nutshell, here is what has happened lately.
4th of July-had a great time at Wild West Fest and with the Selty's! John Michael Montgomery was good but Lo Cash Cowboys were awesome. Hope they come back next year! Enjoyed Corn Dogs, Funnel Cakes, awesome lemonade and people watching. I even took two sips of beer and, yep, I still hate it. I held the empty can so I fit in at the beer garden though. :o)
Mom came to visit. We had a great visit and a LONG one at that! I thought they were leaving Sunday but they were here until Wednesday am! Thankfully I have a very family oriented employer and was able to take off of work at the last moment and on a Monday to boot! The lack of "attitude" when I got back was even better! Always hated when you got treated with attitude and the cold shoulder. Juvenile. Anywho, we enjoyed all her favorite places to eat...namely Taco Shop and Chinese Food Express. She got to visit with great friends, as did I, and we also relaxed. It was a great 5 days!
It's hot, hot, hot outside. Makes it hard to do anything outdoors but we did head downtown to the Blues, Bargains and BBQ event. Not a very big event at all but we got out. Got an awesome visit from Mrs. Staci and little guy Kaden so that made our Saturday complete.
Made a picture board for my work space and we also took my office chair up there as it is better for my back.
So, see, not much in our world. We have actually done a lot and I have tons of pics and video but I have a feeling they won't ever make it on here. Most readers (friends) see them elsewhere anyway. Plus, I just don't want to do it! There, ha!
Oh, got a pedicure from my friend Renee. We went out to eat at Subway and then hung with them for a while. We needed it.
Gotta go "Miracle Grow" my flowers! *Muah*

Slacking
Sometimes I wonder if a four day weekend is worth the four day work week that seems like it lasts for-ever!
I have had a great week, none-the-less. I am super excited for the weekend. My madre is coming to spend a day or so with us. Not nearly long enough but we don't get many family visitors so I'll take what I can get! Would love to have a week long visit with my momma some time.
I have lots of pics and even some video to upload...sooner or later. Okay, later!
Enjoying some Ace of Cakes right now. Peace!

I'm Not A Toys-R-Us Kid but................
I'm a kid at heart. I love Disney movies. I love theme parks. I love going to any festivities in town and hanging out. I like to look and see even if there isn't much to do or if I am just people watching. I like to be out and about when something special is going on. I like to go to the parades. I like to watch the fireworks and hear the booms and see faces lit up by the bright light. I believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. AND, you can bet your ass when I start losing my teeth as an old bitty that Tooth Fairy better come see me!
