At my ultrasound this last Tuesday I was 36 weeks and 3 days. This little (pun intended) man measured that he was 40 weeks and 3 days weighing a whopping 9 pounds and 4 ounces! That was as of last Tuesday, the 26th. Today I am (according to LMP) 37 weeks and 1 day. My uterus still measures right on at my original date and we still have our date of August 17th for induction (which is routine practice here). My doc is a stickler for full term babies if they can stay in that long. We can't blame the diabetes for his size because I have had my sugars under control and my weight gain is not out of this world either. She thinks 5 of the pounds recently gained is the swelling in my legs and feet and then 4 are obviously on him from our last measurements. I was a little shocked when I went to the doc 2 weeks ago that she didn't say more about the swelling (as she left her fingerprints in my calves) but all she said was bedrest flat on my side 3 times a day for 15 minutes. Doesn't do much because if they do go back down they swell back up within 10 minutes of getting out of bed. I have been staying in there at least 2 hours a day to try and keep it under control. When I get out of bed in the mornings they look like toothpicks! And when they aren't swollen they still feel like they are black and blue. Even not swollen, it is hard to walk as they feel like someone has beat on them with a bat. I was also dilated to a 1 at that last visit and she thought she could feel his head (and yes ma'am, as far as it felt your arm was crammed up there I bet you did feel his head!). He has definitely already dropped some.
My non-stress testing has been going well and he's been passing within 30 minutes each time. I also experienced a very good contraction the time before last and it was neat to watch it on the screen and be able to tell what was going on. At least I know what to look for now contraction wise. Honestly, he could stay in there as long as he wanted if it weren't for the carpel tunnel and swelling. He isn't bothering me at all! Well, it has become a little difficult to breath and do some things but I can handle all that! So, that's the latest big news from here. I was going to post my 37 week picture but I haven't taken it yet!
On a side note, we had my mom and step-dad out last night along with my brother and his family. It was a nice time, at least I thought. Wish it wasn't so hot so we could have spent more time outdoors. This coming week is supposed to be the hottest yet. Seriously? 30-something days over 100 already isn't enough? Today was a nice relaxing day and last night I finally slept decent. I did take Tylenol PM and it helped tremendously. Still got up 4 or 5 times to pee but that's normal!
I'm looking forward to a less busy week this week. Last week I was gone somewhere every day. This week I only have Tuesday and Friday for appointments. I do plan to get a pedicure one of those days and may try and sneak it in on a day I'm already out. I'm also planning a haircut and such just because we are getting close enough you never know! The sooner the better but I want him to be there as long as he needs to. He'll come when he's ready or the 17th.
Either way this momma and daddy can't wait to hold him!

The Principal's Office
About two weeks ago I met with my doctor for the first time since I started my new diabetes diet. If you'll recall, she stated that she would yell and scream at me if my numbers were bad. I honestly felt as though I was waiting for the principal in grade school like I had done something wrong and was gonna get chewed out! I had trouble with my sugars the whole week before but I blame stress. It started the day of my shower and then continued through what was a very tough week in which I cried daily. Still not sure what that was but I got over it. I think the carpel tunnel and swollen ankles finally got to me! Not to mention a complete change in lifestyle. I went from working 40 hours a week to staying home and being extremely limited in what I can do because of my hands and feet. That was tough for someone who prefers not to be "lazy". I have recently begun to tell myself that I am not being "lazy"...........I am being 8 months pregnant in the middle of summer!!
So, back to that appointment. She was very pleased with my numbers. I honestly think she was shocked. I don't think they expect pregnant women to be able to follow that strict of a diet. Folks, I didn't even have cake or punch at my own damn shower. It was horrible, but I did it. The only issue was not being real consistent with my eating times. I have to eat at roughly the same time of day, each day, for all meals. This eating breakfast at 7:00 am during the week but sleeping in on the weekends then eating at 8:30 or 9:00 wasn't going to cut it. Same for lunch and supper. So, even if I am to eat with family or friends, if they don't want to eat until 8:30 I can't. I have to stay consistent. I am happy to say that after my shower and "pity party" week things got back to normal on my sugars. And, I did eventually have a piece of that shower cake. :o)
The shower was amazing. I was so blessed and even got "tired" from opening all the gifts. Not that I didn't appreciate them, just tired! The house, inside, is finally getting finished up and the nursery is complete. I LOVE it! We had professional belly pics made and I got those hung in there also. (Becca, I'll have to send an updated picture!). Car seat is in the car, swing and bouncer put together........everything is ready (except for maybe me). Considering his size and the fact that we may in fact go sooner than expected gave us incentive to get ready. At 32 weeks he was measuring the weight of a 35 week baby. We will find out on the 26th via ultrasound how big he is and see if we need to do anything. With my diet, I have only gained 1 pound in the last month (this was at my last appointment almost two weeks ago). We got insulation put in the attic yesterday and the new AC unit is coming Tuesday. I am sooooo excited. This hot weather has taken it's toll on pregnant ol' me. We have had majority of the days in the 100's and have on record one of the hottest summers in the last 30 years.
There's so much more I wanted to blog about but I'm doing good with this much so far! I will post some pregnancy highlights and then some pictures for y'all! Muah!
Weeks: 35 Weeks
Biggest Complaint: Swollen (painful) ankles (see pic below) and carpel tunnel syndrome.
Cravings: Nothing really. I'm blessed in that aspect since I can't have anything I want. I usually do but in moderation. I think mostly I am just thirsty ALL the time.
Sleep: Up at least 4 times a night to pee (due to that extreme thirst). I also feel like Ralphie's little brother, Randy, in "A Christmas Story" when I have to roll over in bed. It's one of those things where you pray you don't get stuck on your back mid roll because it's like when he falls in the snow with all his winter gear on. He just rolls back and forth and can't get up!!
Miss most: Being able to do things with my hands. I can't grip, hold, type, write or anything without numbness and weakness. And there's SO much I want to do!
Weight Gain: 17 pounds total. Only ONE POUND in a month since I started my diet. That was about two weeks ago so we'll see what I did these last two weeks when I go in on Tuesday.
I am also doing two times a week non-stress testing and that has gone well. The doc was right, I don't have time to work between all my appointments!
Ok, since I can't even sleep in I guess I'm gonna get to bed!
This picture of swollen feet was taken over a week ago. They are much worse than this now and get this way within 30 minutes of getting out of bed. My ankles nearly are the width of softballs!
Becca and Aubrey................e-mails coming your way soon! I'm hoping for tomorrow. I just have to get the computer out and do it. If I think about it I start thinking about my hands then I won't even touch it! This is the first time I've opened my actual computer in four days I think!!

2 Weeks Ago & 30 1/2 Weeks!
So, FINALLY! I have been wanting to blog but I get on here and get distracted. By the time I get to this my fingers are so numb and my forearms hurt from the Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. I have to wear wrist splints to bed on each wrist at night and that really bites. Majority of the day I have to wear the one on my right hand as it is worse. As they state, I sure hope it goes away after pregnancy along with a few other pesky things I have to blog about.....
Two weeks ago yesterday we made our way down to Oklahoma. I can't believe two weeks have already gone by but probably because the first entire week here was spent with every day but one, I believe, at the doctor. On our way down we had to pull over because the cat got a little upset and, well, got the runs in the car. Nice. Luckily it was on "stuff" and we could bag it up and I didn't have to smell it the whole way! BUT, as we were cleaning that up I got the phone call with the results from my 3 hour glucose test. I had failed the original one the Friday before and had eaten really good the days before. To date, I have only put on 16 pounds through the entire pregnancy and I don't eat whole boxes of sweets, etc. so I was a little upset. Well, I failed. I have gestational diabetes. I couldn't help but think "what did I do wrong?" and felt that it was all my fault that I was putting my baby in danger. After meeting with my doctor here in Oklahoma (who is completely AWESOME!), I learned that it was the placenta producing too much hormone that my body couldn't process the glucose/insulin like it should. I was still upset. As I said, it's not like I was severely overweight or had put on a lot. ONLY 16 POUNDS!!! That's AWESOME. I was so proud of that. Found out that now I will be losing weight, more than likely, due to the diet I will follow. I have to stick my finger 4 times a day and follow a strict diet. I have to eat 6 times a day; breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, supper, then snack. I test my fasting blood glucose in the am that must be between 70-90 and then 2 hours after each MEAL and must be under 120. In the last 6 days (24 tests) I have only been over on two and it wasn't by much on one. I think I'm doing well. I was more worried about poking my finger but seriously, figuring out what to eat and how and when is worse. When I go to Subway, I take off the top bun. There is no candy, no sweets so to speak of. I have had ice cream (SMALL amount) but I limited it. For my morning snack, as an example, I am only allowed 15 grams of carbs. Um, that's 3 cheese and peanut butter crackers folks. And carbs aren't just breads and white starchy stuff. It's sweets, dressings, sauces. THEY ALL COUNT. So, if I get 3 carbs for lunch my two slices of bread on my sandwich counts as two! Milk counts as a damn carb! So, if I want chocolate milk that counts as two because, guess what?? Chocolate is a carb too! Now, do I feel better?? You bet. My heartburn and gallbladder isn't that bad anymore. I MISS, MISS, MISS my fried food. All that breading on fried food?? Yep, carb. Honestly, I feel I am handling all of this well. I would still say I've had an awesome pregnancy even though I have carpel tunnel syndrome, gallbladder disease and gestational diabetes along with lots of swelling of the ankles. I am super proud of my weight gain and also so very thankful that I have not thrown up ONCE with this child! Oh, and pop! Get this......... 4 OUNCES of pop counts as one carb!!!! As my friend Tammy put it, that's one GULP for us! LOL!!!! I will start having twice a week non-stress testing soon due to the diabetes as well. When I first met my doctor and after she introduced herself the first question was if I worked or not. When I said no, she said good because I wasn't going to have time. She's honest, bold and sweet. I have to log EVERYTHING I eat along with my testing results and take with me to each appointment. She said she will yell, scream and make me cry if they are not good. NO EXCUSES. Yep, I like her! Oh, and diabetic strips are NOT CHEAP!
Rusty no longer will allow me to take my belly pics with my shirt down. I am not too happy about this but it's okay. I'm getting out there that is for sure! Been trying to get a little sun on my belly! We have belly pics coming up after my shower in a week and a half so I'm hoping to have a little color. So, with much hesitation I will post a picture at the end. Baby boy is moving so much and I love it. Sometimes it's almost a little "gross" with what I feel but he did have the hiccups earlier and it was so cute. He had them for quite a while! This afternoon I have a friend who is giving us a 3D/4D ultrasound as our shower gift. We are sooooo excited! I just hope he cooperates and lets us see him! Rusty just wants to see him for real. He can't wait. He said he wants to see his hands and feet and all of him. I asked him if he was the least bit scared or fearful and he's not. Dang him and his being so laid back. I am starting to get a little scared. My mother got us the prettiest bassinet and we got it set up in our room and holy cow did that stir up some of that fear! We have decided we will reveal the name at the shower. His name is one that had to grow on me as Rusty has had it picked out for quite a while but I do love it now!!! It is unique and both the first and middle have great meaning to Rusty. The middle especially as it is a family name. Guess you all might find out when I post pics of the shower! I still haven't gotten the ones from my previous one so I hope to soon.
We are loving the country life. I just wish I could be home more! LOL I have been so busy with doctors appointments that I finally have a full day home today and only had one last week. I know it will slow down. The floors look great. We have new wood laminate in the living and carpet in the hall, nursery and bedroom and new linoleum/vinyl in the bath and kitchen. The third room is still as it was and will be updated later on down the road as the bath in it needs a complete remodel. We have a completely remodeled, expanded main bath that is awesome. I love it. We still need to stain the new vanity and get a couple of cabinets hung. I will post pictures soon. The animals are adjusting well and we love to sit outside and feel the breeze. A picture to follow! Keiko, on the other hand, would love to get outside but with bobcats and coyotes running around I know he wouldn't come home. He has no claws and wouldn't be able to defend himself from anything. So, he's an indoor cat for now. Someday I may let him out and just hope he does come back. When I can handle the thought that he probably won't return, I will try it. Eventually we will get some barn cats to keep outside for rodent control. Don't need that yet but you never know! Sunsets are beautiful and Rusty has started working on the land surrounding the house. It was so overgrown and made it look semi-abandoned. He has done such a wonderful job. Love the paint colors on the walls inside and it has made the house look so different. The outside is another story and will take some time. Power washing the white siding will make a big difference! LOL I have cooked breakfast more times for Rusty in the last two weeks than I have in the last 10 years! I enjoy cooking breakfast and supper and can't wait to go get us half of a cow and store it in the freezer in the garage. It's much easier to cook when you have things on hand.
I guess that's about it for now. I get up each day with Rusty at 6:45 and very seldom take a nap or go back to bed after he leaves. The whole diabetes thing keeps that from happening too because of the need to check my blood sugars and eat at the right times. It's really hard considering sometimes I don't want to eat. I AM thankful I'm not one of those that wants to eat everything all the time with the pregnancy because then it really would suck being limited! I'll post a few pictures then let this do. Hopefully there's not too many errors but my fingers on my right hand (middle and ring) are completely numb! This is a long one!
Here's just one of our views. You can see some of the tall grass and trees Rusty still has to get to. That's also the barn in the background on the right side of the right tree.
And, here's the one of my HUGE belly @ 30 weeks. Working on that tan though! :o) I did find it pleasing that anytime I went anywhere with a high counter they couldn't tell I was pregnant until I said so or backed up. Mainly it's all belly and in the upper thigh. Still wearing my wedding ring too. I'm sure that will change soon but I could definitely do without the upper thigh weight gain. ICK!

One last bit of excellent news! I haven't had any back trouble for several weeks. I am so thrilled about that also. In fact, this is the best my back has felt in years. My previous neurosurgeon told me that some people had their back pain get better when they were pregnant and I thought "yeah right"!! Well, it is! Of course, those maintenance massages help and I'm due for one soon. Keeping those muscles loose is the key for me!

Admiration
While waiting for one of my numerous doctors appointments this past week (more on that later) I was watching The View. Ice T was on there with his wife Coco. He said you can love someone and still look down on them. The difference is to love someone and admire them. It hit me, all this time I never felt that loving my husband was quite all there was to it. There was more that I felt for him than just love and I didn't know how to explain it. That was it. I admire him, idolize him, cherish him, believe in him, trust him, give my all to him.............and of course, love him.
An update on our 30 weeks coming soon! Lot's has happened good and bad, but I'm rolling with the punches and doing what is healthy for me and my little boy!

Farewell Hays
Well, this will be my last post as a resident of Hays, Kansas. I can't believe how fast the last two months have gone by. I knew they'd fly but they also seemed to drag as I spent the majority of the two months alone while Rusty worked VERY hard on our home in Oklahoma. We are so excited to move into his grandmothers house on the farm with 2000 family owned acres surrounding it. Rusty and his family have worked so hard to make the home fit our needs and the welcoming of a beautiful baby boy in August. A completely gutted and re-done bathroom, new floors, paint.....the whole nine yards. I will miss Hays and, honestly, if it weren't for the Stay-At-Home mom perk I'm not sure if we'd be going back. It has always been Rusty's dream to live on a farm so I'm sure we would have compromised somehow. I am excited and scared at the same time. I know I am starting the most challenging job I will ever have but I have no doubt it will also be the most rewarding. I know that there is no way I could do it without the amazing, supportive husband I have. Even though I will be staying home he's already assured me he will do his duty on nights as well. I disagree when he has to work the next day and I won't, but he will be the most amazing father and has already proved it. So proud of him for working so hard on the home of his soon to be pride and joy.
As for the pregnancy, things are moving right along. I am 28 weeks, into the third trimester, and I am so excited to establish with my new doctor on the 6th. It is a birthing center and very nice. Currently, my weight gain is at 13 pounds so as long as I don't balloon out this last trimester I should be right on track for my weight gain goal. My stress levels have been extremely high and I am not happy about that. I am trying my hardest to keep that in check. Baby boy has been a mover and performing those acrobatics for me. At our last appointment Rusty finally saw him move as well as heard it. He kicked the monitor as she was getting his heart rate. This visit we were 140 which is right about where he has been!
I had a small, small shower here in Hays and have yet to get pictures from it so I'll post those soon. I am not sure on the internet situation yet down there but will have access to reading e-mail, facebook and blog comments, posts, etc. I just won't be blogging from my phone! LOL I could but I guarantee they would be SHORT blogs! Here lately I haven't been getting on an actual computer much. Just using my phone. I have a feeling I won't be focusing much on the social network when we get there either. I get to FINALLY start working on my nursery!!! Plus all the other unpacking, then relaxing, then unpacking, then relaxing. :o) Spending lots of time with my mother that I wouldn't have gotten previously. So excited to spend time with her pre-birth rather than just post-birth.
I'm so excited for what is ahead for us. So many great things are happening in our lives. I told you 2011 was going to knock our socks off. Remember??
